Beacon Chain<\/strong>
An interim solution developed in parallel to the Ethereum main blockchain for the transition from the Proof of Work to the Proof of Stake mechanism.<\/p>

Bigchain DB<\/strong>
A database system that combines blockchain properties and can serve as a database as well as a blockchain.<\/p>

Block<\/strong>
A set of data containing transactions and other blockchain-dependent information. The content of a valid block is determined by the consensus mechanism of a blockchain and added to the network as a part of the blockchain.<\/p>

Block<\/strong> height
<\/strong>The position of a block in the blockchain<\/p>

Block<\/strong> Reward
<\/strong>The reward that miners receive for adding a new block, which usually consists of a combination of new coins and transaction fees.<\/p>

Block size
<\/strong>The maximum amount of data that can be stored in a block of a blockchain and refers to the number of transactions that are processed in a block. Although a larger block size allows more transactions per block, it is also linked to a greater demand on storage space and therefore affects the performance for creating new blocks.<\/p>

Blockchain
<\/strong>A decentralized database that is replicated on many computers in the network and stores information in consecutive blocks that are cryptographically linked to each other.<\/p>

Blockchain Governance
<\/strong>The way in which decisions are made in a blockchain network. This can be enabled either by code or by social consensus building.<\/p>

Blockchain Trilemma
<\/strong>A concept that describes the difficulty of maximizing the three main objectives of a blockchain, consisting of security, decentralization and scalability.<\/p>

Borrowing<\/strong>
Refers to the lending of a cryptocurrency or cryptotoken with the help of a DeFI platform.<\/p>

Bridges
<\/strong>Protocols that make it possible to transfer assets or information between two different blockchains.<\/p>

Burn<\/strong>
The procedure of permanently removing tokens from the existing supply by (usually) sending the token to a wallet that cannot be accessed.<\/p>

Byzantine fault tolerance

CBCD (Central Bank Digital Currency)
<\/strong>A digital currency that is intended to be issued by a central bank and is also known as blockchain-based, digital central bank money.<\/p>

Censorship Resistant
<\/strong>A central blockchain feature that prevents information from being changed once they have been accepted as part of a ledger.<\/p>

Chainstack
<\/strong>A platform that provides tools and infrastructure to facilitate the launch of blockchain projects.<\/p>

Coinbase transaction
<\/strong>A transaction that rewards miners for their work in validating and adding new blocks to the chain.<\/p>

CoinJoins
<\/strong>An approach of coin mixing in which several users combine their transactions into a single transaction. This makes it difficult to determine the origin and destination of each individual transaction.<\/p>

CoinMixing
<\/strong>A procedure in which the transactions of several users are combined in order to increase the privacy and anonymity of the transactions.<\/p>

Consensus Protocol
<\/strong>Describes a procedure in which all participants in a blockchain network reach an agreement on the true state of the network. The consensus refers to the data and transaction history of the network and is intended to ensure the integrity of a blockchain.<\/p>

Cross Chain Interoperability
<\/strong>The capability to interact between different blockchain protocols and exchange information and assets.<\/p>

Custodial

Data Storage<\/strong>
The way in which data is stored in the blockchain. The data is first split, replicated, encrypted, and finally distributed to the various nodes recorded in the blockchain ledger.<\/p>

Data Structure<\/strong>
Refers to organized and systematic ways of storing and organizing data in the blockchain so that it can be retrieved and modified efficiently. Often used are Structures such as hash trees and linked lists.<\/p>

Decentralized<\/strong>
A system without a central control instance in which the data is distributed across many nodes that act independently of each other.<\/p>

Decentralized Applications (DApps)<\/strong>
Smart contract-based applications that run on a blockchain and can be accessed via a web based front end.<\/p>

Decentralized Exchanges (DEX)<\/strong>
An exchange based on blockchain and smart contracts for buying and exchanging cryptocurrencies.<\/p>

Decentralized Finance (DeFi)<\/strong>
A collective term for financial applications and products based on blockchain technology.<\/p>

Decentralized Message Communication Protocols <\/strong>
Protocols that enable decentralized communication between nodes or users.<\/p>

Decentralized Storage <\/strong>
A decentralized storage system in which data is distributed to many computers or nodes in the network.<\/p>

Delegation <\/strong>
A process in the proof-of-stake mechanism in which your own coins are \u201clent\u201d to a pool in order to receive rewards later.<\/p>

Deterministic <\/strong>
Something that always produces the same result when executed with the same inputs.<\/p>

DEX Aggregator<\/strong>
A service that links to various decentralized exchanges and thus helps to obtain the best price for the exchange of tokens.<\/p>

Digital Signature<\/strong>
A method to verify and prove the authenticity of digital messages or documents.<\/p>

Distributed <\/strong>
The distribution of data and processes to different nodes.<\/p>

Double Spending Problem<\/strong>

ERC (Ethereum Request for Comment)<\/strong>
A type of EIP that proposes certain standards in the Ethereum ecosystem.<\/p>

Ethereum clients<\/strong>
Software applications that make it possible to interact with the Ethereum network. Ethereum clients can send transactions, execute smart contracts or act as nodes in the network themselves.<\/p>

Ethereum enterprise Alliance<\/strong>
An organization that develops standards for companies to use Ethereum technology.<\/p>

Ethereum Gas Station Network (GSN)<\/strong>
A network that allows DApp users to transact without paying Ether for gas by having a third party (relayer) and the DApp developer covering the costs.<\/p>

Ethereum Geth Consoles <\/strong>
A console application provided by Go-Ethereum (Geth) that allows you to interact with the Ethereum blockchain.<\/p>

Ethereum Name Service<\/strong>
A decentralized Ethereum service that converts public Ethereum addresses into human-readable names and is similar to the Domain Name System (DNS) of the Internet.<\/p>

Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)<\/strong>
The environment in which all smart contracts can be executed on Ethereum.<\/p>

Etherscan<\/strong>
A website and interface to check and search Ethereum transactions, nodes and smart contracts.<\/p>

External Owned Accounts<\/strong>

The currency issued by the national states, such as the US Dollar or Euro.<\/p>

Flash Loans<\/strong>
Loans that are taken out and repaid within a single blockchain transaction and are therefore also referred to as Flash Loans. Users can take out loans without having to provide collateral. The loan must, however, be repaid within a blog creation in the blockchain network.<\/p>

Forging<\/strong>
Refers to the process of creating new blocks in a blockchain.<\/p>

Fork<\/strong>
Refers to the fork of a blockchain from the main blockchain. A distinction can be made between a hard fork (fork of the blockchain from the previous main blockchain) and a soft fork (the nodes of the mainchain receive an update).<\/p>

Fractionalized<\/strong>
Refers to the division of a single asset into several small individual parts.<\/p>

Full Node<\/strong>
A network node with a complete copy of the blockchain database that validates transactions in the network. It helps to decentralize the network and keep it secure.<\/p>

Fungible token<\/strong>

Protocols that are based on layer 1 to improve scalability by taking parts of the transaction processing from the main blockchain.<\/p>

Ledger<\/strong>
The accounting system of the blockchain, which is administered in a decentralized database and by several participants.<\/p>

Lending Pools<\/strong>
Smart contracts that enable users to borrow Values by depositing certain collateral and then paying interest on it. Lending pools are a concept from the field of decentralized finance.<\/p>

Light Node<\/strong>
A node that downloads parts of the blockchain rather than the entire one.<\/p>

Linkable Ring Signature<\/strong>
A cryptographic method that enables a user to sign a message without revealing his or her identity.<\/p>

Liquidity Pool<\/strong>
A collection of funds that are locked in a smart contract. They serve to facilitate trading by providing liquidity.<\/p>

Local blockchain simulation<\/strong>

Maximal Extractable Value (MEV)<\/strong>
The maximum profit that a miner or network validator can achieve by prioritizing transactions with higher fees. While this can lead to higher returns, it also raises questions about the fairness and security of blockchain networks.<\/p>

Mempool<\/strong>
A pool of transactions that have not yet been confirmed by a blockchain network.<\/p>

Merkle Proof<\/strong>
A method of proof that can verify the connection of a transaction to a block in a blockchain without requiring the entire block.<\/p>

Merkle Tree<\/strong>
A data structure used in blockchains to verify data integrity and ownership.<\/p>

MiCA (Markets in Crypto – Assets Regulation)<\/strong>
A proposal for a regulation of the European Union to regulate crypto-assets and related services.<\/p>

Mining<\/strong>
Calculating, Validating and adding new blocks in a proof-of-work blockchain.<\/p>

Moralis<\/strong>
A third-party service that provides DApp developers with a fully managed backend infrastructure for Decentralized Apps.<\/p>

Multi Ledger System<\/strong>
A system that enables interaction between different blockchains<\/p>

Multichain<\/strong>
A software for companies that makes it possible to create and manage private blockchains.<\/p>

Multisignature Wallet<\/strong>
